An original pin-up pastel by Jules Erbit created in 1945 and used in 1946 by the Gerlach-Barklow Calendar Company with the title of "It's a Date!". Erbit did a series of these wartime "gossip girl on the phone" images using the same model for several of the eras leading calendar companies. Pastel is properly lined behind glass in its handsome original limed wood frame with dated framing tag and title.

The 1946 Gerlach-Barklow Calendar Company release on this image which hints at the beginnings of WWII is translated below: "That useful instrument of speech, the telephone has been kept busier than ever with men and woman in the service putting in "long distance" as often as possible to the wife's and sweethearts and other folks at home. It would take a statistician to reckon the number of their calls and a superman at figures to estimate the numbers of words used. But we will hazard a guess that one phrase very frequently spoken--and certainly most welcomely received--was the simple statement of assent: "It's a date!" Anyway, it is easy to imagine that that is what the sweet young lady in our picture is saying. And lucky the "date" at the other end of the line! Jules Erbit, who has so effectively portrayed this modern miss speaking the modern maiden's "Yes," is one of the popular painters of our day. He is a native of Budapest, Hungary, but for many years has resided in the United States. His specialty is portraiture of the modern American girl, and his handling of this beautiful study in gold and blue shows why his pictures are in constant demand with advertisers and magazine publishers."
