An illustrator and landscape and marine painter who used bright colors and impressionist style, Charles Winter studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy and in Paris. He painted at Gloucester, Massachusetts and St. Louis and exhibited at the Paris Salon and the Art Institute of Chicago. He was married to Alice Beach Winter, also a successful artist.
Winter illustrated Roycrofter Hubbard's 'Little Sermons' in Cosmopolitan magazine. He also had several interior full page art plates in Shadowland Magazine in the 20's along with Alberto Vargas. Additionally, Winter did a fabulous cover for the Burr McIntosh Monthly (Christmas 1909) shown here, a fabulous art nouveau, belle-epoque theater and arts magazine which boasted Alphonse Mucha as a frequent cover contributor.
